A-level Practice

Pick a section of Pure Maths 1, answer eight original questions that climb from warm-up to exam standard, and earn your tick. Answers are checked automatically; every question has a full worked solution.

Follows the Edexcel Pure Mathematics Year 1/AS chapter order. The maths is the same for AQA and OCR, so the sections map straight across.

Which paper are you working on?

Each section is eight questions: two warm-ups, three standard, two exam-style and one problem-solving. The mixed exercise at the end of each chapter is eight exam-style questions across the whole chapter.

How to type your answers

Type what you would write, in plain text. The checker understands equivalent forms, so 3x^2 - 4 and -4 + 3x² both count. When a question asks for a particular form (factorised, completed square, a single fraction) it also checks the form.

Powersx^2, x^(1/2), e^(2x), x^-3
Roots and fractionssqrt(3) or √3, 2sqrt(5), (x+1)/(x-2), 1/(2x)
Constants and functionspi, e, sin(2x), ln(x), log(100), 5!
Solutionsx = 2 or x = -5, x = 2, -5, x = 30, 150, x = 2 ± sqrt(3)
Lines, circles, curvesy = 2x + 3, 2x - y + 3 = 0, (x-2)^2 + (y+1)^2 = 25
Inequalitiesx < 3, -2 < x <= 5, x < -1 or x > 4
Points and vectors(2, -3), (2, 3) and (4, 5), 3i - 4j
Anglesdegrees as plain numbers: x = 30, 150

How the ticks work

Score 80% or more on a section and it is marked secure. Anything less stays working on it, so you know exactly what to come back to. Your best score for each section is the one that counts. Progress is saved in this browser.
